The Ultimate Act To Achieve Success In Anything

You want to start a business.

You want to make more money.

You want to go back to school.

You want to be a better saver. (BTW: great tips at Stacking Benjamins)

You want to change the world.

You want to do….something!

So, what do you do?

You talk about it…a lot.

But, “talk is cheap”.

You painstakingly plan.

But you can’t plow a field simply by turning it over in your mind.

You settle on making it your New Year’s resolution.

But you should “never put off until tomorrow what you can do today”.

You worry about the drawbacks.

It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to succeed.

You do anything and everything except for the one and only thing that can possibly lead to your success:

Take action!

Thinking, planning, talking, preparing, rationalizing, etc. are all things you need to be doing to some degree.

It’s ok to not want to fail.

You are allowed to be cautious.

However, it’s important not to let any of those things linger and lead to inaction.

Inaction is the enemy of success.

It will render all of your plans, preparations, and ideas moot.

If you want to do something–anything–no matter how big or small, you need to keep something in mind.

At some point, you actually need to:

Take action!

No matter how great the idea;

No matter who you can help;

No matter how much you think;

No matter how much you plan;

No matter how much you prepare;

No matter how much you talk;

You will never accomplish anything if you don’t stop all of the other stuff and finally:

Take action!

The bottom line is that nothing ever gets done if you don’t act.

Period.

It really is that simple.

  1. oh awesome inspiration in small package! Loved the change in your writing style in this post! Kind of reminding me of Leo!

    1. The tone and structure needed to match the message. I wanted to convey the importance of acting, so I simply followed my own advice and just wrote quickly and succinctly about how important it is. It’s doubtful I can do it again very often, but we’ll see….

  2. Hey, thanks for the mention! You’re right on point: people worry too much about getting it “just right.” Set the ball in motion or nothing will ever, ever happen.

    1. I have to give proper credit where it’s due! Never would have thought about this if not for your survey.

      Like Master Yoda said “Do or do not.”

  3. Love this! I start each day tackling the thing I want to do least. I get it out of the way. Everything else seems easy after that.

    1. It almost always seems that all you need to do it just start and everything else takes care of itself. The hard part is getting to the point where you take that first action step.

    1. Absolutely! People are too worried about having everything be perfect but there generally is no such thing to begin with. The reality is that most things improve with experience, however how can you improve if you never start in the first place?

  4. Sometimes with a big project it can be a little overwhelming to get started. I find that if I break large tasks into smaller pieces I have more success completing them and there is a sense of accomplishment if I can keep making progress.

    1. As long as you start, it really doesn’t matter how you go about it in my opinion. If you never start, you never get anywhere and you never succeed.

  5. Isn’t it crazy that two little words can have such a big impact on the success or failure of an idea?? “Take Action”

    It really is as simple as that. I think the mistake a lot of people (myself included) make, is imagining what they want their idea/business to look like, and then thinking to themselves “It’s going to take years to get this to where I want it, I just don’t have the time for it”. And it very well may take years. But it will never get done or happen if you never start. Even just a few minutes a day, make it happen. Stack it up, brick by brick.
